This is a good video for any time of the year. Remember how he came.

On Friday, Oct 28th. I’ll be playing with these fine folks at J. Arthur’s Coffee in Roseville, MN. I hope that we get to see you there.

Check out their new song…

House Shows: la poema, you and your friends (and maybe a few other people).

I just wanted to let you all know that I’m interested in doing house shows, or smaller shows, this fall. They are really easy to make happen and lots of fun. So, if you are interested in calling me up and having me come over, let’s talk. I’m always excited about playing and having an excuse to get people to hang out together.

Let me know if you have any thoughts….

First Days in NC

What a Great Time we’ve had out here in North Carolina so far!?!

Faith Building Missions and Life 90.5 graciously brought me out here to play with Jason Gray and Jenny & Tyler for a concert at Highest Worship Center. It was a great time singing Don’t Have to Go Far, Miracle Grow, Waiting…, etc with these new faces! I saw more than a few smiles, tapping toes and bopping heads. I always like to see that!

Jenny and Tyler are great people. They really put on a good show together, and they even don’t have to try and be showy. Great songs and great hearts for people and God.

Jason is amazing and always has good things to say. The dude has been traveling non-stop it seems for quite a while. He has some great new songs on his new album! And he played some of them there at the concert. It was some good stuff. Jason’s voice is so clean and good to listen to, ah! I enjoyed it very much. I think my favorite thing I heard this night was

‘Fear is easy, but Love is hard.”

Oh! I loved that so much. It is so true that fear holds us down so much, but it’s easy to do. Love is so much more beneficial, but it can be so much harder than fear.

It was good to chat with Jason a little bit during the evening. He has such a way about him. I hope we can pray for musicians like him, on the road, away from his wife and kids. Family is so important. God bless that man!

The next morning, Jenny, Tyler, and I lead the people in song and encouragement at Ocean View Baptist Church. It was kinda crazy. We ended up arriving shortly (like 3 minutes) before the beginning of the service, but God somehow has a way of working even in the midst of chaos. We got my guitar plugged in. Tyler got the sound right on it, and that was all the time we had to get ready. With all the apprehension we could have had, God gave me a peace about the situation. I can’t speak for J&T, but they seemed chill and Tyler graciously used my guitar, even joining me with his mandolin to play ‘I’ll Fly Away’ at the end of the service. God really blessed me through that time and, from what I heard from others, used us to bless the congregation. That is always my goal, so I’m glad that people were encouraged.

I had really great time getting to know Jenny & Tyler. They are ordinary people, but their the kind of people that you want to get to know. I even got to shoot a video for them, and translate a conversation we were having at a Mexican restaurant, Las Palmeras. I hope and pray they continue to bless encourage people to live well as they are doing. I know I have been.

A buddy of mine, Peter Bierer, passed this article along (click the title to see it), and I found it encouraging.

My thoughts, short and sweet, are that we are emotional beings, and music is innately emotional; but worship is devotion, not music. Music can express this devotion and be a part of it. I find worship to so much more rich than holding it to just music.

What are your thoughts?

la poema - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

Reduce, Re-use, Recycle

In Honor of Earth Day, I decided to give ya’ll a preview of a song that I’m working on. It’s called, very simply, Reduce, Re-use, Recycle. It’s a simple song with a simple message, but fun, like la poema does. ‘What you sew is what you reap’ someone once said, and I’d like to sew good things, even in the physical world. Would you?

Join me this year and pick up some garbage that you see. Take the extra time to recycle that can or bottle. Don’t use a bag from the store, bring your own. You can do good without doing much. It will help us all and be a good testimony.

Peace,

la poema

p.s. pass this song along to your friends if you think they’ll like it.

You can download this song from the player, while it is available, at www.lapoema.com

Get on the Boat!
la poema is going on a mission (well a cruise and a mission), and we want you to come with us! We were asked to come along with Faith Building Missions (www.faithbuildingmissions.com) and play on the Mission Music Cruise (www.missionmusiccruise.com)! This is very exciting for us as we will be playing with Big Daddy Weave among others and getting to tell people about Jesus in a personal way.
The plan is pretty simple: Go on a cruise in the Caribean with other Christians, hear from great speakers like Shawn McDowell (Josh McDowell’s kid) and other great speakers, play music that glorifies God on the boat (like Big Daddy Weave and la poema), take one day on the Bahamas, partner with local ministries, bless the people of Nassau, Bahamas with ministry to orphans, painting and cleaning, and many more ministry opportunities, and then enjoy the cruise on the way back to the Florida.
If you’ve ever have wanted to go on a cruise, June 20-24, 2011 is the time. This is gonna be a great opportunity in so many ways! Come join us and let’s go on a vacation with a purpose!
